A dynamic duo.

Today, Jesse Daniel released a new duet with Ben Haggard, who is of course the son of country music legend Merle Haggard.

The second single from Daniel’s forthcoming fourth studio album Countin’ The Miles, “Tomorrow’s Good Ol’ Days” takes an incisive look at the state of the world and our current trajectory as a society.

Daniel says he took a look at his own values and principles when he wrote it, adding that he feels as though it’s his duty as an American songwriter to observe, comment, and even critique life in America, which we all know is far from perfect:

“American songwriters have traditionally been observers, commentators and critics of life in their country. With ‘Tomorrow’s Good Ol’ Days,’ I took a closer look at my own values as a songwriter and put those forward as honestly as I could.

When I first wrote it, I heard Ben Haggard’s voice in it. I asked him to sing on it, and what he sent back gave me chills. His vocal delivery makes this song, and it is an honor to sing this one with him.”

Ben Haggard added:

“The good times ain’t over for good if you invest in tomorrow’s good ol’ days.”

Amen…

Haggard has such an incredible and commanding voice, and adds such a beautiful layer and weight to the song that makes it feel even deeper and more thoughtful.

Countin’ The Miles was recorded at Austin’s Arlyn Studios, and features several other very talented musicians including pianist Ronnie Huckaby and the aforementioned Elders of George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band, as well as bassist Kevin Smith, who a longtime member of Willie Nelson’s Family Band.

The California native is known for keeping the Bakersfield sound of country music alive and well, and this next release is shaping up to be another solid addition to his impressive catalog.
