Luke Combs just keeps bringin’ it with these tearjerkers.

Today, he teased another new song called “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” which he played acoustically in the stands of American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin ahead of his Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old tour that starts tomorrow night.

The heartbreaking song finds the narrator, seemingly a young boy, wondering why his dad isn’t home all the time anymore and why they can’t just go to a ballgame together anytime they want like he’s used to.

He can’t wrap his mind around why his parents wouldn’t be together since his mom says “she still loves” his dad and in “someways always will,” and sadly feels like he had something to do with it because he was misbehaving:

“All I want is for you to take me out to the ballgame,
Pick me up at the house,
What’s this every other weekend thing even all about?
Momma said she loves you, and in some ways always will,
I guess somethings are different now but daddy can you still,
Take me out to the ballgame,

I’d sure love to go again seems like it’s been so long,
We could get tickets Friday night and you and maybe mom,
I feel like it’s my fault that you two ain’t together,
and I’m so sorry I was bad, I promise I’ll be better”

This is the part that really got me, though:

“Cuz I just want to see you
And if you’ll come back you don’t have to
Take me out to the ballgame…”

And I thought there was no crying in baseball… that about ripped my heart into two separate pieces.

It’s as unique of a concept and brilliant wordplay as I’ve heard in a country song in long time, and while divorce is obviously very relatable subject matter for so many people, is seemingly and oddly missing from so many modern day country songs.

I think it might be the best Luke Combs song I’ve ever heard, and I hope we get to hear the full studio version sometime soon because this is a HIT. When I first saw the title, it’s the opposite of what I was expecting to hear too, which makes it all the more smart and intriguing.

Luke actually shared the entire song on Instagram, saying:

“I’m at the ballpark, so I figured I’d share a new one called ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.'”

Do yourself a favor and check it out, but fair warning, you might wanna grab a tissue first:
